Grant is a former 3-sport college athlete who studied abroad during graduate school at Copenhagen Business School in Denmark. Over the last nine years, he’s developed dozens of programs to serve student-athletes from nearly every NCAA sport working with coaches, athletics directors, international education professionals and university faculty. Grant is responsible for university relations and identifying unique opportunities and partners abroad to facilitate new program development.
Josh Erickson, MBA
Director of Program Operations
Josh is a former college basketball player and college basketball coach who lived abroad in Costa Rica for five years managing program operations and international staff. He was the Head Coach of the Costa Rica Men’s National Basketball Team, the Costa Rica Women’s National Team and top professional teams in the country. Josh manages partner relationships and program delivery across all programs and sports ensuring a smooth transition from program planning to execution.
Marissa Floyd, PhD
Director of Academics
Marissa has participated in sports as an athlete, coach, and administrator. She earned a Doctorate in Communication, Culture, and Sport and has held teaching positions at the University of New Mexico, Metropolitan State University of Denver, and the University of Denver. Her research focuses on athlete identity, collegiate athletics, and sport-focused education. Marissa specializes in curricular development, service-learning, and community relations. She has coordinated core curriculum, first-year learning communities, and assessment for her past departments. Her background also includes DI student-athlete support services. Marissa now oversees all of our academic programs; as well as developing sustainable community partnerships and service for various programs in Playa Flamingo, Costa Rica where she resides with her family on the Beyond Sports campus.
Emily Bastian, M.A.
Program Development Manager
Emily is SA Abroad's Program Development Manager. Prior to joining our team full time, she completed her MA degree in International Education Management at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies.
Her previous experience includes working for American University's Washington Semester Program recruiting international and domestic students. She also worked for the Institute of International Education managing international exchange programs, including the Fulbright Scholar Program. She ran track and field and cross country at Dickinson College and spent two years studying and teaching English in Northern Italy.
Costa Rica Site Director
Silvia is one of Costa Rica's most accomplished athletes having played Division I soccer and basketball in the United States. She received all-conference honors on the field and in the classroom. Silvia has represented her country on both the Costa Rica National Soccer and Basketball Teams. Prior to joining our organization, she directed programs for Special Olympics of Costa Rica and continues to manage the Beyond Sports - Special Olympics partnership as a member of Special Olympics' Board of Directors.
Costa Rica Business Operations Director
Carlos has worked on various projects with our organization over the past 5 years and joined the team in a full-time role in 2017 as the Costa Rica Business Operations Director. His responsibilities include working with our local hotel and transportation partners to coordinate program logistics and managing the development of our Flamingo Campus. He is a former Account Executive at Banco de Costa Rica (BCR) and professional basketball player for Liberia.
South Africa Site Director
Nawaal has traveled the world through the game of softball as a member of the South Africa National Team. She studied Sports and Recreation Management at the University of the Western Cape. Nawaal joined us from The Laureus Sport for Good Foundation, a global non-profit which supports 20 inspiring sport for development organizations in South Africa and more than 150 organizations in 35 different countries across the globe.
South Africa Program Coordinator
Samantha was born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa and has traveled internationally through the sport of softball. She has a Bachelor's of Commerce (Business) degree from the University of Western Cape and has been assisting our programs in South Africa since 2016. Sam worked in education for 10 years before joining the team here at SA Abroad.
Spain Programs Coordinator
Kris is our Spain Programs Coordinator. She graduated from Claremont McKenna College with a dual degree in anthropology and psychology, and received the Alumni Association Citizenship Award for her service to the school. As a senior she made SCIAC first-team honors for the third year and was named CMC Female Athlete of the Year after leading her basketball team to four league championships and NCAA appearances. For the past two years she has been living in southern Spain as a teacher, while both coaching and competing in her other favorite sport, beach volleyball.
