Our internships allows students to gain academic credit for internships, practicums, or independent research.
Earning academic credit is a additional option to the Internship Program. Credit options require an added fee (for the credits/transcript) and additional academic requirements.
There are two ways to go about receiving academic credit for our programs:
Portland State University (PSU)
You may opt to receive credit directly through Student-Athletes Abroad via our accrediting institution, Portland State University. Enrolling in our internship course for credit will cost an additional *$750 on top of your program fee, and will be added to your account balance prior to your program start date.
*About the fee: the $750 fee is a flat rate fee, so the number of credits assessed will be determined by your university. Most programs grant three credit hours to our Internship course.
Register for academic credit through your home institution
The first step if you would like to pursue this option is to speak to your academic advisor within the department of your selected major/ minor to see how you may be able to receive direct credit. Students who receive academic credit directly through their university usually register in one of 3 ways: 1- with their academic department directly, 2- through the Study Abroad or International Education Office, 3- through the Career Services office. Cost of credit at home university is determined by the university's per credit hour cost.
Our Academic Programs Director, Marissa, will work with you throughout the process (of either option) and help support you in connecting with the right offices on your campus. She is available to answer any questions you have about our internship course for credit including questions about the syllabus and assignments.
